It's your turn..

TO REMEMBER: You'll never gonna find some neighborhood store a 12:30, there, the people take a break.
To finish, I have to remember you that Valledupar is not for someone who's looking for urban beauty. This city is recognized for its amazing cultural heritage, a place, where you definitely gonna have fun if you're disposed to identify all its treasures. So, go there and start traveling, and then come back here, and tell us your experience. It's all, thank you.  Hope you enjoy!

Some of Food

Fried fish
Although Valledupar doesn't have beach, it's considered a coast city, wich means that a big part of its gastronomy tradition is seafood. In my case, steamed fish in the breakfast, soup of fish in the lunch, fried fish in the dinner, is an excellent resume that I saw in my first three days of visit. Well, I don't think that all of the families in the city are like mine, maybe it's because I am the tourist so they try that I absorb the most that I can of their culture. As a rule, the plates are served with a ''bollo'', that is just a corn dough with saltt and sugar, manioc, green plantain and ''suero''(sour milk).
Personal 'Salchipapa'
Is not a secret that coast people are famous for being party-lovers. The city has a lot of nightclubs, when you can live the experience, listen to music, learn to dance as them and drink alcohol, not beers, just 'aguardiente', whiskey or rum.
Caribanola, manioc full of
rice and meat
For  younger people and family plans, I can recommend a very original fast food that the coast has. Have you ever listen about 'salchipapa'? It's probably that all the colombians have eaten some of that once in their life. Usually, is just the mixed of what its name means, sausage and fried potatoes, but no in Valledupar. There, is a huge mixed of minced chicken, butifarra, lettuce, corn kernels, A LOT of cheese, three types of sauces and finally, some of sausage and fried potatoes. Is common see people from another part of Colombia amazed with the particular plate.

TOURISTIC PLACES

Mermaid
One of the biggest attractions of Valledupar is definitely the Guatapurí river. There, you can go at any time of day, seven days a week and always will be perfect for cooling off in the water and hang out with friends and family. There, we will find a curious monument, ''Guatapurí Mermaid ''.
Bridge and boulder, from where they young men usually jump
Legend said that her name was Rosario, a beautiful young woman, who after disobeying the order of her mother at Easter ended up transforming into half fish, half human. Some people say that on the same date every year, we can see her on the shore of river.

Pilonera Mayor
In the center of the city is located the Alfonso Lopez Square, one of the most representative places. There, we can find the Cathedral and Revolution Monument in Progress. The square is surrounded by several colonial houses and a restaurant renowned in the area.

Other monuments found throughout the city are the Piece of accordion, La Maria Mulata, The Poperos, and the largest of all, La Pilonera Mayor, more called 'Indian'. All these hidden stories that any native would be proud to tell.
Valledupar is a city that tends to have much communication with the Guajira, it is very common to see native Indians with their outfits walking around town and offering their crafts.

MUSIC

Silvestre Dangond permorming at
Vallenato Legend Festival
It´s likely that the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear 'Colombian Caribbean coast' is the vallenato, even more, if you named Valledupar because this is the world capital of the musical rhythm.
The Vallenato Legend Festival is the largest event in the city. There, we can see different kinds of cultural activities and music that illuminate the city and receive hundreds of tourists in April each year.
We can say that this, is the only kind of music that you gonna hear in the trip.
Accordion, one of the most representative musical
 instrument of the genre.
Don't you like the vallenato? You need to live the experience! Despite my roots, the truth is that I never was very fan of this musical genre if not until I lived closer. The vallenato heard in every corner of the city is very different from the kind of pretty sad songs that we often hear in bars and family parties. It's a really catchy and enjoyable music, perfect for the best occupation of coast people, celebrate.
