One of the
biggest attractions of Valledupar is definitely the Guatapurà river. There, you
can go at any time of day, seven days a week and always will be perfect for
cooling off in the water and hang out with friends and family. There, we will find a curious monument, ''Guatapurà Mermaid ''.

Legend said that her name was Rosario, a beautiful young woman, who after disobeying the order of her mother at Easter ended up transforming into half fish, half human. Some people say that on the same date every year, we can see her on the shore of river.

In the center of the city is located the Alfonso Lopez Square, one of the most representative places. There, we can find the Cathedral and Revolution Monument in Progress. The square is surrounded by several colonial houses and a restaurant renowned in the area.
Other monuments found throughout the city are the Piece of accordion, La Maria Mulata, The Poperos, and the largest of all, La Pilonera Mayor, more called 'Indian'. All these hidden stories that any native would be proud to tell.
Valledupar is a city that tends to have much communication with the Guajira, it is very common to see native Indians with their outfits walking around town and offering their crafts.
